Friday on MSNBC, former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) did not say what he thought embattled President Joe Biden should do regarding his role as the Democratic Party's standard-bearer.

Biden, the preferred choice of Democratic Party voters to be the party's presidential nominee, is facing increasing pressure to step aside as doubts persist about his ability to lead Democrats at the top of the November ballot.

Earlier, the long-time Biden ally downplayed concerns about Biden's health, referring to them as "nothing burger." Days later, the former junior Alabama U.S. Senator was not as outspoken about the incumbent president.

"I don't know exactly what the deadline would be," Jones said. "But I know that there were a lot of things that have happened since the debate, including a week full of NATO leaders in which President Biden showed the world that he can be a leader, is a leader and can be a future leader for America and for the coalition that Is fighting Vladimir Putin, unlike what we saw at the Republican National Convention, which seemed to be a Putin-love fest over the last few days. I also know that the Republican convention was not a time to make any kind of firm announcements. This was something now that that is over and the president is kind of isolated away, I think he is having that — you hear these conversations."

"And, by the way, I don't think anything we just heard from your colleagues here is really newsworthy," he continued. "These are logical things going on, both with the president and his family and discussions and alternatives that I believe were probably taking place weeks — several weeks ago, two or three weeks ago, not just in the last few days. Preparations — Kamala Harris has been prepared to be at the top of the ticket. She has been prepared to be president since the day she was selected by Joe Biden as his running mate."

"So, it would be irresponsible for people not to do the kind of things given the atmosphere that we have now," Jones added. "But I do think you will see something relatively soon. As they say on the game shows, final answer. I think we will be there, and I think, as I have said all along, whatever that final answer is going to be, it's going to be one I trust Joe Biden's judgment and will be in the best interest of the country."
