Former chief trial attorney for the Madison County District Attorney's Office, Tim Douthit, won a commanding victory on Tuesday in the Republican primary election for Madison County District Judge Place 1.
Douthit, who was previously appointed to serve as District Judge for Place 1 by Gov. Kay Ivey in January, defeated Huntsville attorney Michael Tewalt, earning 65.3% (18,096) of the vote compared to Tewalt's 34.7% (9,629).
Douthit now moves on to the general election in November, where he will meet Democrat challenger Kimberly Kelley Rucker.
