Fourteen members of East Brewton's W.S. Neal High School football team chose to be baptized this week.
According to a Facebook post that is now going viral, head coach Hugh Fountain and others had been participating in a Bible study with some of the players, which resulted in 14 players dedicating their lives to God this week.
Leticia Barnes wrote, "We don't brag on this school enough so during the week Coach Fountain and other coaches have been having Bible study and this week some got baptized this was a special moment and I hate I missed it due to work but I am beyond proud of these guys and greatful for our coaching staff Quayveon McCants Jabrei Mackey I love you both and I am proud of you W.S NEAL EAGLES.”
The baptisms were led by pastor Andrew Sawyer, who is the student pastor at First Assembly of God in East Brewton.
In 2022, Fountain turned his alma mater from a winless team the previous season to winning a playoff game.
Escambia County School Superintendent Michele McClung said Fountain meant more to W.S. Neal than just football.
"Coach Fountain is an exceptional leader who invariably understands how to build a positive culture in the school and community as well as the dynamics of a winning team. We are blessed to have him and his coaching staff in Escambia County Schools," McClung said in 2022.
