John Jacobs, a longtime educator and conservative Republican, announced his candidacy for Alabama House District 37 in the May 19, 2026, Republican primary.

Jacobs, of Woodland, holds a 40-year career in public education, including 31 years as an administrator and three terms as Superintendent of Randolph County Schools.

A press release said, "Jacobs brings an unmatched amount of experience and a proven commitment to service to his community."

Jacobs is a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama Pecan Growers Association and Audubon Society. He has hands-on experience as a cattle rancher, corn farmer, timber producer and pecan orchard owner. He has also been part of professional organizations such as the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, the American Association of School Administrators, as well as serving on the board of directors at the state level of Middle School Principals, Secondary School Principals and School Superintendents of Alabama.

Jacobs highlighted his agricultural experience and tenure as an educational leader and in rural Alabama, stating, “I’m running for Alabama House District 37 to bring tried and true conservative values, practical solutions, and servant leadership to Montgomery. My decades of experience in education, agriculture, and community leadership have prepared me to tackle the challenges facing our district and state and bring home results that help the people of my district.”

“I believe in limited government, strong schools, and protecting the values that make Alabama great. Parents should be active in their child’s education, families deserve to feel safe, and taxpayers are owed honesty and transparency from our elected officials. In the legislature, that’s exactly what I'll stand for," he added.

State Rep. Bob Fincher (R-Woodland) announced that he wasn’t running for re-election to his House District 37 seat.

Five Points Mayor Jeff Monroe is also running for the empty seat.
