Signs point to a possible election for Alabama Senate President Pro-Tempore when the State Senate's Republican caucus meets in Birmingham on Tuesday.
Some expect current State Senate Pro-Tem Greg Reed (R-Jasper) to announce his resignation from his Senate District 5 seat, thus also relinquishing his leadership post.

During Friday's broadcast of Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show," the outspoken State Sen. Chris Elliott (R-Josephine) said he was backing Gudger.
"If it is between Senator Livingston and Senator Gudger, which I have every reason to believe it will be, I will be casting my vote for Senator Garlen Gudger," he said. "He is a good friend. He's a good friend for South Alabama."
"He understands our issues," Elliott added. "He is young and energetic and assertive and aggressive. And to the extent we have policy differences, I feel like my position gets heard, considered and valued, and you can't ask for more than that out of a pro-tem."
