It has been nearly two weeks since Troy Meink was sworn in as the 27th Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, and there has been no official announcement designating Huntsville the permanent home for Space Command headquarters.

Back in April, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) told Auburn University's McCrary Institute's "Cyber Focus" podcast that the decision was to be finalized later in the month.

However, U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank (R-Colo.), whose district includes Space Command's current headquarters, insists the headquarters remaining in Colorado Springs still has merit.

During an interview with Fox News Digital published earlier this week, Crank warned that moving Space Command would slow down the implementation of Golden Dome.

"Right now, Space Command is headquartered in Colorado Springs, right next to Northern Command," Crank said to Fox News Digital. "Northern Command is the combatant command that will have control over Golden Dome because that's a dome over North America. So, Northern Command would have control over that. They've got to be seamless in their efforts to communicate. And, you know, we don't want any delay in getting Golden Dome up and running. It seems to me moving a command and having that additional concern and challenge of having a command — that's going to slow us down in the implementation of Golden Dome."

The Colorado Republican lawmaker also cited cost savings and proximity to Cheyenne Mountain, which he maintained was more secure than other locations.

In the same report, Rogers dismissed those concerns, telling Fox News Digital that Alabama had won "fair and square."

"They're just doing their job, you know, they don't want to see it leave," Rogers said, according to Fox News Digital. "They lost two nationwide competitions. It's not me saying it should be in Huntsville."
