Foley is among the nation's top 10 fastest-growing cities, and to meet demand, the Foley Fire Department is expanding and building a new station.
The new fire station will be built on donated land on East Fern Avenue between Alabama State Highway 59 and the Foley Beach Express. The five acres will be divided into two lots: one for the fire station and the other for a Riviera Utilities water facility.
Foley fire chief Joey Darby said the location is ideal.
"It's high and dry and gives us great proximity to the Beach Express and back west to 59," said Darby. "We couldn't ask for a better spot in our northeast. So very excited to get that piece of property that really fits and meets all those needs for us."
Riviera will assess the property to determine whether a well and water storage tank can be located on site.
"They're excited about this as well," Darby said. "I really think it's going to be a great layout for us and will really position us well."
Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the department will add firefighters to address demand in the growing city.
Foley's population swelled from 20,335 in the 2020 census to over 26,000 in 2025. It had the highest growth rate of any city in the state.
