NASA announced it awarded a contract worth millions to a company in Alabama.

Vanguard Pacific LLC, of Foley, won the facilities engineering design and inspection Services (FEDIS) II contract. The firm will provide architect and engineering design services at the agency’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville.

The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a potential mission services value of $25.6 million and a maximum potential IDIQ value of $22.5 million, for a total value of $48.1 million.

The contract for services begins on Aug. 1, 2022, with a one-year base period, followed by four one-year option periods that may be exercised at NASA’s discretion.

Under the scope of work specified in the contract, Vanguard Pacific will be responsible for design services in support of the Minor Construction Contract for projects of $1 million or less. The scope also includes master planning, surveillance, and inspection services.

Vanguard has a history of working closely with NASA. The company was awarded a five year subcontract from Orbital Sciences Corporation, a Northrop Grumman Innovation Services company, in October of 2019, for support of NASA’s Environmental & Test Integration Services III contract at NASA’s Goddard Space Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The company wrote on its website, “Vanguard has been in business for over a decade, during which time we have developed partnerships with a range of successful firms, including other 8(a) firms, SDVOSBs and WOSBs to tailor a team designed to meet the needs of our clients based on scope, size and contracting goals. We currently have projects ranging from maintenance to design-build contracts nationwide and we take the care and time to meet personally with our clients to develop a plan to meet their requirements. No matter the complexity of the project, we have the resources and expertise to consistently deliver on time and within budget - with zero change orders. The company is financially strong and bonds all contracts as the prime. Through our partnerships, we have and can execute multiple jobs ranging from $100,000 to $15,000,000 located throughout the United States.”

Vanguard's CEO, Sydney V. Cody, served in the Navy on active duty where she was attached to a Seabee Naval Mobile Construction Battalion. She led expeditionary construction detachments throughout the continent of Africa where she says that she cultivated an ingrained "can do" attitude that is ingrained in the company today.

NASA employs nearly 6,000 workers at its Marshall Space Flight Center with an annual budget of $2.8 billion
