Former Citronelle Police Department Chief John Tyler Norris was recently indicted by a grand jury in the Southern District of Alabama for allegedly using excessive force and lying to investigators.

The indictment stated Norris had an altercation with a suspect in his custody on June 30, 2021. The suspect suffered various injuries from allegedly being hit repeatedly in the abdomen.

Norris then allegedly misled investigators by lying about what took place during the incident.

He resigned from his position as chief in September 2021.

The 43-year-old former chief could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of assault and 20 years if convicted of making a misleading statement.
