Kristi Bain, a 2022 candidate for Cullman County Commission, was arrested by the Cullman Police Department this week, according to Cullman Daily News.

Bain faces charges of five counts of theft by deception and five counts of using office for personal gain. She was booked into the Cullman County Jail with a $500,000 bond and will be transferred to Limestone County where the charges originated.

Bain ran against four other Republican candidates for the Cullman County Commission associate commissioner seat when the Alabama Legislature expanded the body from three seats to five.

She ran on a platform of no tax increases and pledged that if she was elected, she would donate her $25,000 a year Commission salary to local interests.

Bain and her opponent Corey Freeman were the top vote getters, and the election moved to a runoff. Freeman defeated Bain in that June 2022 runoff to take the seat.
