On July 4, State Sen. Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) was injured in a jet ski accident on Smith Lake, which resulted in five fractured ribs, eight fractured vertebrae, a collapsed lung, a punctured artery to his spleen causing internal bleeding and a concussion causing double vision.
Gudger was released to his home recently from UAB Hospital where he’d been recovering from his injuries, his wife shared. She also emphasized the power of prayer in his recovery.

“We’re home. We’re thankful to be home. There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed at night and having our dogs back with us. Anything that could’ve gone bad during this situation has actually gone good and we’re blessed for that,” Heather Gudger, Garlan’s wife, said in an Instagram video on Tuesday.
“I believe in prayer and the power of prayer, so if there’s anything anyone can continue to do at this time that’s pray for healing," she continued. "I believe God has plans for Garlan and He’s not finished with him. The doctor said he shouldn’t be here, he should be paralyzed. I believe God is working through our family right now and during this time we’re able to spend together I believe we’re growing stronger together.”
