A fake GoFundMe account in the name of a Tuscaloosa County boy fighting cancer has been removed.

GoFundMe communications manager Brian Hill told 1819 News the platform removed the page after being notified of the misuse.

“GoFundMe is continuing to closely monitor the platform and review any fundraisers created on behalf of the Roberts family,” Hill stated. “We have removed the fundraiser in question and zero dollars was raised. GoFundMe has zero tolerance for the misuse of our platform.”

While the fake account did not raise money, the legitimate page for Roberts has raised nearly $600,000.

The Roberts family is hoping to travel to Santa Monica for the DeltaRex-G treatment, which his mother says has shown promising results with aggressive forms of cancer. Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Oz contacted the family last week after viewing a video Roberts posted on Facebook.
