Gulf Shores Police have identified a person arrested in connection to the March 27 shooting near Surf Style at the intersection of Alabama Highway 59 and Beach Boulevard. However, they now say that person is one of several suspects and has not been charged with the shooting.

Jaytwon Williams, 18, of Bay Minette, is charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Police said following the shooting, he attempted to gain entry into vehicles to flee the scene.

Williams was handed over to Bay Minette authorities due to other charges he was out on bond for at the time of the incident.

Detective Carl Wittstruck said the release of information has been authorized as information has become available, which is an active investigation.

"I haven't had an opportunity to provide an update regarding the shooting at Surf Style," he told reporters. "Please excuse this not being in a standard format."

The names of other suspects, including the subject who likely pulled the trigger, injuring one person, have not been released.

Police believe the shooting occurred after a group of subjects were involved in an altercation in a parking lot near the location. They believe the victim knew the shooter.

The name of the victim, who was shot in the leg and later released from the hospital, has not been released.

Police responded to the shooting around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses and review video from the scene.
