The city of Gulf Shores confirmed one "young male" was shot Wednesday night at the intersection of Highway 59 and Beach Boulevard. A suspect has been taken into custody but that person's identity is not being released at this time.

Grant Brown, with the city of Gulf Shores said the age of the victim is unknown but that he was shot in the leg. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment and his condition is unknown.

The intersection has been closed while police investigate. The city is asking everyone to avoid the area.

The Hangout posted on Facebook that everyone in The Hangout was safe.

"Gulf Shores Police Department is on the scene of a shooting that took place earlier this evening at the intersection of HWY 59 and Beach HWY," the post stated. "Suspect(s) and victim(s) were not at The Hangout. All Hangout patrons are safe, and we await further details from the GSPD."

Molly Haffner, who was visiting from Illinois, captured the frantic scene on video.

"We were driving down the main road and heard screaming," Haffner said. "Then saw people running. Several people with little kids. People were also hopping over the wall outside."

"We saw an officer running down Beach Boulevard and several others in vehicles," Haffner continued. "We are staying about a block away."

Haffner, who is in town visiting family, said people were running into the street, and her vehicle was stopped due to emergency vehicles.

A similar scene happened exactly one year ago. On March 27, 2023, a person was shot outside the entrance of Gulf Place, next door to The Hangout. Rafiq Sh'mare Joel Bradley, 23, of Bay Minette, was arrested in connection to the 2023 shooting. The victim survived.
