The Gulf State Park Pier will reopen on August 19, officials announced Friday.

The pier has been closed since November 17, 2023, when the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources closed it for renovations.

The repairs were necessary after Hurricane Sally. The pier was severely damaged by a powerful storm surge on September 16, 2020. At the time, the pier had been closed for a $2.4 million renovation that was nearly completed.

In 2021, the pier partially opened without a 200-foot section that collapsed.

Gulf State Park is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a later date.

Sightseers and anglers can use the pier for a fee.
