The Southern Poverty Law Center is currently advertising for the position of “Executive Director of the SPLC Action Fund” with the job posting saying “the minimum starting salary is $265,000 annually.”

According to the job posting, "SPLC Action Fund seeks to build local political power for progressives and increase representation by people of color in local elected positions across the Deep South.”

The job listing says, “To change the political landscape into one that celebrates diversity and seeks to dismantle structural racism, we believe we must first engage and build a pipeline of candidates who reflect the communities they will serve. When we are successful in local elections, we can have substantial positive impact on the social and economic policies that matter to constituents.”

Less than a year ago, the SPLC gutted its staff by a quarter laying off 60 people. As 1819 News reported at the time, the layoffs came nearly two years after the SPLC employee union negotiated its first collective bargaining agreement with SPLC management.

A spokesperson for the SPLC employee union said on X that the nonprofit SPLC, "an organization with nearly a billion dollars in reserves, given an F rating by CharityWatch for 'hoarding' donations — gutted its staff by a quarter."

In December 2023, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government accused FBI analysts of knowingly using untrustworthy sources in categorizing certain Catholic groups as potential domestic terrorists earlier this year.

SPLC Action endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election cycle, with Margaret Huang, president and CEO of the SPLC Action Fund, saying of Harris, “She will undoubtedly be a president who strengthens our democracy for all, including future generations, against a dangerous and extremist Trump-Vance ticket."

“As we look to the future of our nation, the SPLC Action Fund is elated to endorse a candidate as resilient, intelligent and compassionate as Vice President Kamala Harris for president of the United States of America," she added.
