During a recent call with reporters, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed Space Command's upcoming move to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and credited the city's mayor for helping secure the agency's relocation to the Rocket City.
"You know, after four long years of waiting around, this should have already been done," Tuberville said. "The Democrats put a hold on it, but we need to get this done immediately or as quickly as we possibly can."
Tuberville spoke of Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle's leadership through the years-long selection process.
"It's exciting to see all this progress and bringing Space Comm to its rightful home in Alabama. I'm very appreciative of city leadership, of the Huntsville mayor, Tommy Battle," Tuberville stated. "He was here in the meetings. We had a long talk in my office about the process. He has done an excellent job in preparing to bring Space Command to Huntsville, where it should be. As I've said before, bringing Space Command to Huntsville is good for not just Alabama, but national security, because the next war is probably going to be fought in space."
Tuberville added, "We need to prepare to stop wars, especially from outer space. So I'm looking forward to having everything in place very soon this week."
