Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed recently began fundraising for his PAC by sending text-message ads critical of U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).
The text solicitation for donations to Reed's Mission PAC states, "do you have an extra house or two in Florida? It's Mayor Steven Reed here, and this question will make sense in a little. Earlier this year, Senator Tommy Tuberville drew residency questions when doubt arose concerning his two Florida houses and his Gubernatorial bid. Supposedly, the issue was resolved. But still, it speaks to just how out of touch this man has been from working families in places like Montgomery."
"Tuberville is leaving office. But despite having a rare chance to operate without fear of retribution from the DC political machine, has stayed in line with the people voting to cut our healthcare and unleash chaos in our communities. And his campaign rhetoric isn't any better—he's threatened to sic the national guard on Montgomery and has vocally opposed our actions to improve our city," the text from Reed's Mission PAC said. "Tuberville is going to demonize us for political points with national extremists in between trips to his Florida houses. So we need your support to fund the community outreach needed to counter the lies and bring voters real facts. Can you help us reach our End of Year Fundraising Goal and deliver the truth to Montgomery voters by donating today? steven4al.org/HOME?t=Vs9s37"
Tuberville said in August that if there were problems in the state's major cities, sending the National Guard "would be one of the first things" he'd do as governor to assist local law enforcement.
