Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis picked up two high-profile law and order endorsements last week in his bid to replace incumbent Mayor Frank Brocato, gaining the public support of Attorney General Steve Marshall and Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr at a campaign event.

In a video released by the Derzis campaign, Marshall addressed the crowd, saying, "I usually don't show up for events for mayor. I don't mean that in any way other than I'm here because this is a man that for 20-plus years has been a very influential figure in my life, and one thing I wanted you to hear from me personally is that I have absolute 100% support for him in this election."

"They also need you telling your friends and your neighbors about the man that you know and about why it is that he's the man for the job and to be able to allow others to have an understanding of him that they maybe don't have now to see the leader that he's been and that he will become for this city," Marshall explained.

Carr said, "My chief and hopefully my future mayor Nick Derzis," before going on to say, "The way, not only you carry yourself but the way that you treat others. The character that you show. The commitment that you have, but also understanding the importance of accountability."

Marshall and Carr join a long list of supporters who are endorsing Derzis over incumbent Frank Brocato. Derzis has the support of the majority of the city council, with Councilmen Curt Posey, Steve McClinton, Sam Swiney and Casey Middlebrooks all backing the police chief.

The race is set to be the most expensive in city history. According to the Secretary of State's website, Derzis has reported raising $307,901, while Brocato has raised $175,600.

The election will be held on August 26. Newly elected municipal officials are sworn in and take office on the first Monday in November following the election.
