After months of mounting pressure, the U.S. House of Representatives voted near unanimously on Tuesday to compel the Department of Justice to release all files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The vote was 427-1, with U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) casting the lone “principled no” vote.

Both Democrats and Republicans have been pushing for the release of the files. However, President Donald Trump’s recent call for their release appeared to break the logjam.

All of Alabama’s House delegation voted in favor of the release.

“The release of these documents, along with @GOPoversight's thorough investigation, brings us closer to providing the victims of Jeffery Epstein with the justice they deserve,” U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) posted on X. “I hope these documents will provide the American people with answers and result in those that committed wrongdoing being held accountable.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said in a statement, “Today, I voted to release the Epstein Files to build on the transparency that President Trump’s Department of Justice and House Oversight Committee Republicans are already working to ensure in their investigation. I applaud President Trump for supporting the release of the files and will continue working with his administration to get answers for the American people while also protecting innocent victims.”

Moore added that Trump has been leading the charge against “weaponized government that protects elites.”

“Any suggestion otherwise is a lie meant to distract and divide Republicans as we fight to save America by enacting [Trump’s] agenda,” he said.

The issue now goes to the Senate for a vote.
