On Wednesday, former U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks spoke to 1819 News about his recently launched campaign for House District 20, criticizing his opponent, State Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville), and Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) for allegedly misrepresenting his accomplishments while in office.

"They are flat out wrong, and they have made a major error in trying to tell the people of House District 20 that my record as their public official has been a do-nothing failure, and I'm going to make them eat those words," Brooks said. "And the way I'm going to make them eat those words is by pointing out the things that I have done for the people of House District 20, and let the people decide whether the incumbent comes anywhere close to that track record."

Brooks accused Lomax and Ledbetter of making "false mud-slinging derogatory remarks," while pointing to 11 re-elections as proof of past voter satisfaction.

"I would add that the House District 20 citizens are probably the highest IQ, smartest group of citizens of any house district in the state of Alabama, and they don't like being told falsehoods for political gain, nor do they like outsiders trying to tell them what to do," Brooks continued. "They're smart enough to make up their own minds."

"And finally, I would add as proof of the quality of job that House District 20 voters think I have performed for them. I've stood for re-election to public office 11 times, and in those 11 times, the voters on average, have re-elected me with an astonishing 83% of the vote on average," he added.

Brooks argued residents in HD20 are being pitched a "con job" by Lomax and House leadership in Montgomery.

"So the people of House District 20 know a con job when they see it, and they're not going to like those who are pitching it," he concluded.
