House Majority Leader Paul Lee (R-Dothan) recently called for hefty Republican participation in the August 11 special primary election, after Democrat leadership in the state has called for their members to cross party lines on the ballot.
Alabama has a special primary election in some congressional districts due to federal action allowing the state to use previously barred congressional maps, potentially resulting in a 6-1 Republican map instead of the previous 5-2 map from the 2024 election.
Since there are no Democratic candidates in Congressional Districts 1, 2, and 7, some Democrats in the state are urging their members to influence the outcome in those districts, as Alabama does not have closed primaries.

The Alabama House Republican Caucus took to social media to decry the Democrat efforts, saying it was a "direct attempt by the Left to interfere in our primary and pick weaker general election opponents for their own benefit."
Attached to the caucus' post was a statement from Lee, calling on Alabama Republicans to take the Democrats' threats seriously and encouraging participation.
"Alabama Republicans can't afford to sit this one out," Lee said. "Democrats are actively organizing to influence our primary. The answer is a massive Republican turnout on August 11. Every conservative voter needs to show up and make sure Republican voters - not Democrat operatives -decide who represents us."
