AUBURN – Training camp continues to move along for the Auburn Tigers as the 2024 season is just two weeks away.

Head coach Hugh Freeze believes that things are coming together but mentioned one position group that still has some work to do.

"The o-line is probably one of the tighter groups we have," Freeze said. "I do think we have a ways to go there and that's probably been my biggest worry about the offense right now."

Freeze did mention how he does not believe the group is incapable of the unit figuring things out before the season starts.

"Just getting them to gel and getting them on the same page," Freeze said. "Really happy with most of them there but there's a couple spots where we've got to bring it, we've got to come better."

Freeze talked about sophomore Connor Lew, who is expected to be the starting center.

"Connor Lew is very, very sharp," Freeze said. "He's making the right calls but somehow it's not translating all the time to every position there, so we've still got some work to do there."

Freeze talked about some other players at the position who have been developing well throughout camp.

"I am optimistic that Tyler Johnson is now healthy and I think he's got a chance to be really, really talented," Freeze said. "I tell you (Ronan) Chambers has been a very, very good late pickup to help us also. We're debating D-Wade (Dillon Wade), where's best for him to play."

Freeze talked about the addition of freshman DeAndre Carter and the role he will play on the team this season.

"It would be a week-to-week decision," Freeze said on Carter getting playing time. "He's got some work to do to come on, obviously he's just a freshman and his body's got to change. I hope he's not one that we have to depend upon this year, but he's one that if you had to, the more he plays the better he is going to get. We'll just have to play that by ear."

Improving the offensive line has been a top priority for Freeze this offseason, as the unit's play last season left much to be desired.

Auburn opens the season at home against Alabama A&M on August 31 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The broadcast can be found on ESPN+/SEC Network+.
