UPDATE, April 16, 2023: Brenton Fillers, 54, of Alabama, was arrested in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Spanish Fort Police Department is asking for information about a man they have dubbed the “TikTok Trickster.”
The suspect uses TikTok and other social media platforms to meet women and scam them out of money, cars and other items.
WPMI spoke to one victim from Spanish Fort who said she did not want to be identified. The woman said she met the guy who called himself Jason Mitchell on social media. They went out on a date after talking for a week. They continued seeing each other for three days until the man stole her car and vanished.
Police then connected the case to a crime in Daphne, where a woman was stranded at a hotel after traveling with a man from West Virginia. The woman claimed he took her debit card and money.
The man goes by many names, police said, but his real name is believed to be Brenton Fillers. Fillers has warrants out of Tennessee and Texas, including a charge of sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy.
“We need the public’s help locating the con artist in the story so that he can finally be brought to justice,” the police department posted on Facebook.
If you have information, call the Spanish Fort Police Department at 251-626-4914.
