Huntsville Utilities is once again issuing late-fee assessments and conducting service disconnections following a six-month "grace period." The utility service had previously suspended the fees and disconnections on August 11 as part of a software system upgrade.

"We began phasing out the former payment arrangement method last summer," Huntsville Utilities told WAFF 48. "Customers who requested arrangements were advised that installments could only be set up through July, since the new software system was going into effect on August 11. During the grace period of no late fees or disconnects, we advised customers to keep paying what they could in order to keep the balance from becoming excessive."

The company said that it is also no longer providing payment plans for customers.

Huntsville Utilities announced in November that it would resume collecting late fees and disconnection services on January 5.

The suspension was extended due to the government shutdown.
