In another significant milestone for both the city of Huntsville and Redstone Arsenal, the Huntsville City Council has authorized Mayor Tommy Battle to proceed with a $45 million "investment" for the rapidly expanding military base.

According to the city, $30 million, a majority of the proposed funding, would be allocated to "supporting critical site improvements, utilities and infrastructure needed for construction of the new U.S. Space Command headquarters." Approximately $15 million would be provided by the State of Alabama for "senior leader housing built to military specifications."

"Redstone Arsenal and Team Redstone are essential to our nation's security and to Huntsville's identity as a leader in defense and aerospace," said Battle. "This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to supporting the infrastructure and resources necessary for U.S. Space Command and Redstone Arsenal to succeed and grow for decades to come."

The gift commitment was included as part of the original proposal submitted by the City of Huntsville and the State of Alabama to the Department of Defense during the nationwide selection process for the permanent U.S. Space Command headquarters.

If approved, the resolution authorizes the City to advance the gift agreement with the U.S. Army.
