A group called  Pro Greyhound Racing Investors announced on Monday they were planning on bringing live greyhound racing back to Eutaw’s Greenetrack Greyhound Track and Casino.

No venue in Alabama has offered live greyhound racing since the Birmingham Race Course discontinued it in 2020.

According to Pro Greyhound Investors, the “multi-million-dollar investment” will include a new racetrack, enhanced spectator experiences, improvements to the racing infrastructure, and “new gaming additions” like “advanced seating options, expanded hospitality areas including table games and other entertainment, and interactive digital features along with promotions.”

Mac Davis, head of Pro Greyhound Racing Investors, said in a statement “Greyhound racing has long been a cherished tradition in Alabama, embodying the state’s rich history of sporting excellence and community spirit.”

“Its return not only rekindles a beloved pastime but also celebrates Alabama’s advancement in gaming and entertainment in the Yellowhammer State,” Davis said.

The revitalization project has an expected completion date of May 3, 2025.

Davis is based out of Mississippi and New York. Davis is also involved in the horse racing and bull riding industries.

A constitutional amendment that would’ve expanded what types of gambling could be offered at locations throughout the state including Greenetrack narrowly failed in the Senate in the 2024 legislative session. It’s possible a similar proposal will be brought back up during the 2025 legislative session.
