According to officials with the City of Hoover, the Islamic Academy of Alabama has withdrawn its application for a zoning change that would have allowed it to relocate from Homewood to Meadowbrook Corporate Park.
The application filed last month was opposed by residents who were concerned that a corporate park was not the ideal location for a school and community center.
A Change.org petition started by residents has received 438 signatures to date, with 65% of those signatures coming from the surrounding area.

The meeting to consider the request was initially scheduled for Monday, June 9, at 5:30 p.m. The contact listed on the zoning application did not return a message requesting comment, and no public statement has been made on the school's website or social media pages.
