Controversy over a woman declining to compete against a male opponent in a recent Maryland fencing competition sparked renewed outrage over transgender athletes invading women's sports after the U.S. Senate failed to pass a bill addressing the issue in March.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has been leading the charge to protect Title IX and women's sports. On Sunday, the former Auburn football coach blamed Democrats for continuing to push the trans agenda that he said will end in disaster for women's sports.
"It's the priority of the Democrats, the letter salad of LGBTQ groups. You can't let one of them down," Tuberville said on Fox News Channel's "Sunday Morning Futures."
"The Democrats know that transgender boys in women's sports is wrong, but they can't abandon them because the rest of the group would probably say, if you're not going to stand with us, we're out of here for you Democrats," he continued. "It's wrong. Everybody knows it's wrong. We're going to ruin women's sports. It's a disaster. This young girl in Maryland that, on the fencing team, that said, listen, I can't beat this guy, why don't you give me a chance, that's exactly what's going to happen."
Tuberville said it's only a matter of time before women's teams are made up entirely of biological males. Later on Sunday, Tuberville proved his point by posting on X about two men competing for the championship in a women's pool tournament.
"That's going to be a situation where it's going to pick up speed because these woke globalists are pushing these kids to say if you can't compete in men's sports, let's just transition and say you're a woman and participate in women's sports," Tuberville said. "It is dead wrong, and we have got to stand up against it. But the Democrats, they're all in of keeping this situation going in the wrong direction."
