Alabama will "lend our support, if needed," as more states begin sending National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. at President Donald Trump's request, according to Governor Kay Ivey.

Trump said last week he would federalize the D.C. police department and deploy National Guard troops to the nation's capital to restore law and order.

So far, Louisiana, Ohio, South Carolina, West Virginia, Mississippi and Tennessee have all sent National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., to support law enforcement and increase security.

Will Alabama be next?

"We have not received an official request. However, Governor Ivey stands ready to lend our support, if needed. Governor Ivey remains supportive of President Trump's mission to Make America Safe Again, beginning with our Nation's Capital. The Ivey Administration remains in contact with the White House on their efforts to secure Washington, D.C," Gina Maiola, a spokeswoman for Ivey, told 1819 News on Tuesday.
