Incumbent James Lucas has been reelected to the District 3 seat on the Athens City Council after defeating former Councilman Henry White by a margin of 87 votes in Tuesday's runoff election.

With all ballots in the race now counted, Lucas reportedly received 58.93% of the vote (287) to White's 41.07% (200).

According to the city's website, Lucas previously served on the Athens City Board of Education. At the time, he was the longest-standing board member in Alabama before resigning in 2022.

Lucas is a graduate of Trinity High School in Athens and served in the U.S. Army. He has an associate’s degree in business administration and is a former employee at Radio Corporation of America on Redstone Arsenal.
