A Jefferson County inmate took a deputy hostage inside a jail cell Monday, according to court documents.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the deputy was abducted and assaulted.

Court documents state that Reontay Harley, 33, held a Taser at the deputy's head and threatened to shoot him in the head with it. The incident lasted roughly 20 minutes.

The jail's Extraction Unit responded and recovered the deputy, who was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
