The Birmingham Police Department announced an arrest five months after a deadly shooting in the city's west precinct.
Marion Cedric Poole was murdered on June 16. Investigators said Poole was shot in the 4000 block of Avenue H.
The BPD's Crime Reduction Team arrested the suspect on November 20 on an unrelated charge.
Stephan Trainer, 24, of Birmingham, is charged with capital murder.
Trainer was placed in the Jefferson County Jail without bond. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
According to court documents, Trainer was on probation after pleading guilty in a 2021 shooting that injured two people. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted murder and first-degree robbery. Circuit Judge Alaric May signed the plea agreement, giving Trainer a 20-year split sentence, with three years to serve. Trainer was given three years credit for time served. When he was released last October, he was placed on probation for five years. Prosecutors have filed to have that probation revoked.
