The man accused of trying to rob people inside a Jefferson County home Saturday morning has been identified.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Jaxon Edwards, 22, is charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery following the incident.

The robbery attempt occurred at 6:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Mulga Loop Road.

Detectives said Edwards was shot during the incident. He fled into the woods but was later arrested in Birmingham, near Carraway Boulevard.

He was treated at UAB Hospital for his injuries. Once he was released, Edwards was taken to jail.

The sheriff's office initially identified the suspect as a 33-year-old man. That error has been corrected in the latest news release.

Edwards also had a list of outstanding charges before his arrest. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
