Since the early stages of the 2026 election cycle, former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) has been out front ahead of his opponents in May's congressional GOP primary.

In August, a Cygnal survey showed Carl ahead of his first congressional opponents, State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise), and U.S. Army veteran Joshua McKee.

According to a poll of likely Republican voters conducted by AM Research Group on behalf of Carl's campaign, the former first congressional district representative still has a commanding lead over his opponents.

The poll, conducted January 31-February 2 with a margin of error of +/-6.1%, showed Carl with an even bigger lead over the field, which now includes Marques, McKee, Austin Sidwell, Jimmy Dees and John Mills.

Despite the primary election being 100 days away, the survey found that nearly half of the respondents were undecided.

  • Jerry Carl: 43%
  • Rhett Marques: 7%
  • Joshua McKee: 2%
  • Jimmy Dees: 2%
  • Austin Sidwell: 1%
  • John Mills: 1%
  • James Richardson: 0%
  • Undecided: 44%

The survey appears to reflect what has been consistently shown in earlier polling this year and late last year, conducted by different interested parties throughout the state.

It also showed Carl, Marques and McKee above water in the favorability category.

Carl is also out ahead by a wide margin despite Marques' fundraising advantage, reported last week.
