Jesse Battles announced on Sunday that he is running as an independent candidate in the November general election for State Senate District 10.

Battles originally qualified to run as a Republican but was disqualified from the upcoming May 19 primary ballot by the Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) Steering Committee in February. Shortly after the disqualification, Battles pledged to remain a “loyal Republican” who would keep his supporters “united within our Party.”

However, on Sunday, Battles said he’s decided to run as an independent in the general election. Qualified candidates in the Republican primary on May 19 for State Senate District 10 are incumbent State Sen. Andrew Jones (R-Centre) and Amy Minton.

Battle said on Facebook, “After much prayer and many heartfelt conversations with the hardworking people of Northeast Alabama, I’m stepping forward to run for State Senate District 10 as an Independent.”

“This campaign was never built in back rooms. It was built by you: neighbors, friends, and families who care deeply about the future of our community. This moment is bigger than any one setback,” Battles said. “It is about standing up for Northeast Alabama, our values, our future, and our right to be heard. Our district deserves leadership rooted in integrity, guided by principle, and committed every single day to making this the best place to live, work, and raise a family. Now, more than ever, your voice matters. Together, we can gather the signatures needed to secure ballot access and move this campaign forward. Please note that signatures must be wet ink on the official form in order to be valid. Sign the petition today and stand with us to put Northeast Alabama first!”
