“Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.” – William Congreve
My fellow women, make no mistake - we have been scorned by the Biden administration and the Democratic Party. To scorn means to reject as contemptible or unworthy, to disdain. Synonyms include words like disrespect, ridicule and mockery. All accurately describe what is being done to us by the party that claims to love us.
We have been mocked and ridiculed by once iconic brands like Nike, who advertised sports bras modeled by a man with no breasts wearing “womanface” and acting like a silly child.
Now, our own government is attacking us. Last Friday, the Biden administration declared an unprecedented blitz in the war on women by stripping away the protections afforded us under Title IX, disrespecting our identity and declaring us unworthy of protection.
The following 37 words of Title IX have protected women and provided opportunities for us in both academics and athletics for the last 50 years: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
Until recently, most understood what common sense dictates: sex is biological and binary. With the stroke of a pen, President Biden has used the United States Department of Education to change the definition of sex to include gender identity, a vague and subjective term. Under the revised regulations, any man can proclaim that he is a woman and anyone who says differently is guilty of discrimination.
This absurd and abusive expansion, set to go into effect this August, means we will no longer have spaces for women. We will only have male and co-ed spaces. Men will have access to our bathrooms, locker rooms, dorm rooms, scholarships, titles, and anything else they want. Not only do these changes mean men can invade our spaces and put us in harm’s way, but they also mandate we play along with this charade or face harassment charges.
Men and women are built differently, as designed by God. “Biological sex is a determinant of athletic performance,” a 2023 study by the American College of Sports Medicine found. “[A]dult males are faster, stronger, more powerful than females because of fundamental sex differences in anatomy and physiology dictated by sex chromosomes.” Allowing biological men to compete against women is wrong and dangerous.
I find it unconscionable that female athletes like Megan Rapinoe, Dawn Staley, Billie Jean King and Candace Parker support men being allowed to compete against women. These women might not have achieved success if men had been allowed to compete against them. These women pander to popular, woke ideology for public accolades, placing the burden of this battle on today’s young female athletes, like my daughter. It’s disgusting.
Today, this radical change affects women, but tomorrow it might affect other protected classes. If a man can declare himself a woman, what is stopping a white person from declaring himself Asian? Popular culture currently accepts the former but abhors the latter, but both are premised on the same ridiculous notion that a person can change his core identity based on feelings. Why have Title IX or any other class protections at all if we must accept this logical fallacy?
Further, these radical changes to Title IX indicate a continued and severe shift in the purpose of our educational institutions from education to activism and indoctrination. Higher education once sought to pursue truth and advance the democratic ideals upon which this country was founded – freedom of speech, protection of due process, and insurance of equality under the law. The Biden administration’s changes to Title IX strip women’s right to equality and go so far as to deny our ability to even speak out against it.
All of us, but especially women, must fight back against the monstrous march of gender ideology that is changing the shape of our social fabric. I see three ways we can do this.
First, attack this abomination legally. Several attorneys general, including Alabama’s own Steve Marshall, have already gone on record saying they will file suit to fight these changes. We must support them in this effort and pray for their swift success.
Second, our state leaders should find ways to distance Alabama from the federal government and the mandates that come from taking federal funds. This past fall, Tennessee became the first state to officially create a task force to investigate ways to reject federal education funds. Alabama should do the same. The 10th Amendment specifically reserves the right to education to the states. The U.S. Department of Education should be abolished, and their funds distributed via block grants to the states. I trust Alabama’s superintendent, Dr. Eric Mackey, and our local school leaders with our children’s education far more than the nameless bureaucrats making decisions for Alabama in D.C.
Third, we must convince women not to vote Democrat this November. Women will play a pivotal role in the 2024 election. They make up the largest group of registered voters and often turn out at higher levels to vote. In 2020, 68.4% of us made it to the polls compared to 65% of men.
We cannot stand by and watch liberal Democrats, and this joke of an administration continue to mock, ridicule, disrespect and put women in harm’s way. We have fought too hard for our academic and athletic opportunities to let them be taken away from our daughters. I am furious, and I hope you are, too.
