On Sunday, the Jim Zeigler campaign announced that a national group backing candidates for Secretary of State in 14 states, America First Secretary of State Coalition, has endorsed Jim Zeigler in Alabama’s Secretary of State race.

The coalition is closely though unofficially associated with former President Donald Trump (R) and is strongly concerned with election integrity.  It was founded this year by former State Rep. Jim Marchant (R), who is running for Secretary of State in Nevada.

The group’s agenda includes:

  1. Voter ID requirements

  2. An insistence on paper ballots

  3. The elimination of Mail-In Ballots and keeping traditional absentee ballots

  4. Single day voting

  5. Unfettered poll watch reforms

  6. Aggressive voter roll clean-up

Secretaries of State are the chief elections administrators in their states and play a key role in enforcing election laws.

“Jim Zeigler has been Alabama’s State Auditor for seven years,” America First Secretary of State Coalition wrote in a statement. “As auditor, he led battles against government waste, mismanagement, and corruption. He was called 'the Watchman.' Now, he is running for the open seat of Secretary of State. He says he will serve as the Watchman for election integrity.”

Zeigler thanked the group for their endorsement.

“Over the next eight years, the job of Secretary of State will be vital,” Zeigler said. “We face national attempts to manipulate honest election procedures. We face attempts to allow non-citizens to vote. Only U.S. citizens should vote in U.S. elections. We face efforts to change ‘election day’ to ‘election week’ or ‘election month’. We need to be vigilant against those who would vote early and often. We face assaults against our requirement for photo voter ID. We face ballot harvesting; automatic voter registration on election day; drive-by drop-off ballot boxes; and voting by mail. A vote for Jim Zeigler is a vote against all these methods of manipulation.

“As State Auditor, I led the fight against waste, mismanagement, and corruption. As Secretary of State, I can apply that same approach to fight the manipulation of our elections. Election integrity may be the most important single issue. The reason is this: If we lose our ability to elect or defeat officials, then all other issues will have lost accountability to the people. We would have government of the manipulators, by the manipulators, and for the manipulators. A vote for Jim Zeigler is a vote against election by manipulation.”

Zeigler is also endorsed by “MyPillow Guy” Mike Lindell, a noted critic of the 2020 election results, who organized "Cause for America" to fight nationally for election integrity.

Zeigler filed the initial ethics complaint against former Gov. Robert Bentley (R), which eventually led to his resignation. He also led the citizen fight against the gas tax increase and more successful citizen-led fights against toll roads and the $3 billion prison rental plan.

Zeigler has a degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama and is an eldercare attorney who assisted veterans and senior citizens in receiving coverage for nursing home and home care.

He is married to Jackie Zeigler (R), who serves on the State Board of Education representing eight counties in Southwest Alabama. Zeigler said that Jackie led the movement that banned critical race theory in Alabama schools and has been a consistent voice to repeal common core. Their daughter, Mary Magdalene Zeigler, just graduated from the University of Alabama in Public Relations.  Their son died in 2020. Zeigler and Jackie are members of Kingswood Church and are active in the pro-life movement.

Wes Allen, Christian Horn, Ed Packard and Zeigler are all running in the May 24 Republican candidate for Secretary of State.
