After meeting with U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), President-elect Donald Trump's pick for the next FBI director, Kash Patel, received a full-throated endorsement to take the position in the new administration.

Patel has been among Trump's more controversial cabinet picks. Patel worked extensively with the Trump administration after the 2016 election to uncover alleged misconduct in the FBI and Department of Justice in targeting key members of the Trump campaign. He has since been on the warpath against the so-called deep state in Washington, D.C., the behind-the-scenes bureaucracy that allegedly turns the wheels of power in D.C.

It remains uncertain if Patel will receive the final confirmation in the United States Senate.

Like many of Trump's picks, Patel has already begun meeting with Senators ahead of the inauguration. He quickly picked up an endorsement from Alabama's senior senator, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).

On Thursday, Patel successfully met with Britt, receiving her full endorsement to head the FBI.

"Kash and I agree the Biden Department of Justice's targeting of Americans for their political beliefs must come to an end, and it will under President Trump," Britt said. "The FBI's focus should be protecting Americans from terrorists, hostile foreign actors, and violent criminals. Kash and I discussed how FBI Redstone in Huntsville is in prime position to be an invaluable partner in achieving this shared goal. Looking forward to hosting Kash in Huntsville soon and to Redstone being instrumental in fulfilling the FBI's core mission for decades to come."

In return, Patel spoke equally glowingly of the Britt meeting, saying, "Alabamans are lucky" to have her in the Senate.
