For better or for worse, Big Tech plays a pivotal role in steering the country's political discussion. It can be a place where mainstream media journalists find ideas for stories or serve as a town square to discuss the day's politics.
However, in recent years, conservatives have charged so-called Big Tech oligarchs had put their thumb on the scale for left-of-center content to drive public opinion to their point of view.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk's recent purchase of social media giant Twitter has been hailed by conservatives as a possible deviation from the liberal-left trend dominating social media.
During an interview with Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show" on Wednesday, Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Katie Britt applauded Musk's purchase, proclaiming it "important" to democracy.
"You better believe I'm going to weigh in on this," Britt said. "I look forward to taking a look at some of the things Josh Hawley is doing really pushing Big Tech. We cannot allow them to control Americans' lives or control the conversation. So, I am really excited about Elon Musk buying Twitter. It is interesting to watch all of the liberals have an actual meltdown, Jeff.
"It is embarrassing. And it is really revealing. You've got woke activists like Shaun King and others that are just leaving Twitter because they are mad that people they disagree with have a voice. And if that right there doesn't tell you how important this is to democracy -- you can have a space that is open to free speech, where people can embrace different points of view and be able to get their opinion across and have dialogue, that is what America is about. That is what makes this nation so great -- that you're allowed to have your own opinion, you're allowed to voice it, you're allowed to disagree, and you're allowed to have that dialogue."
Britt said that over the last several years liberals have shown that the cancel culture is real and targeted at Christian, conservative thought. Britt said liberals continue to silence people they don't agree with or those whose ideas run counter to their liberal agenda, such as the revelation of the Hunter Biden's laptop, a conversation they shut down because they had the goal of electing Joe Biden, so they hid the truth of that laptop to advance the liberal-left agenda.
