The Alabama Legislature will keep its normal schedule this week despite winter weather in parts of the state over the weekend.

Twenty-two Alabama counties are currently in a weather-related state of emergency declared by Gov. Kay Ivey last week.

“Our office has been in communication with Pro Tem Gudger’s office and the EMA Director – we will proceed with the scheduled plan for Tuesday, January 27th to gavel in at 1 p.m. This will be a 2-day week,” House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) said on Monday.

The Senate is scheduled to gavel in at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jess Skaggs, chief of staff for State Sen. Pro-Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman), said in an e-mail, “The Senate will convene tomorrow, January 27, at 3:00 pm. This week will be a two-day work week. Committees will meet on Wednesday, and we will be on the floor on Thursday.”
