From denigrating Alabama lawmakers, “MAGA Republicans” and former President Donald Trump to promoting Democrat candidates and leftist talking points, Circuit Court Judge David Carpenter maintains an active presence on social media.

Carpenter has presided over Alabama’s 10th Judicial Circuit, Place 5, in Jefferson County since 2013, when he beat incumbent Teresa Petelos. Since then, he’s been busy online, sharing his legal and political opinions on Facebook and X, apparently without fear of exposing his personal biases.

"I’m liberal trash too, and I’m your worst nightmare. I’m an elected official. A far left, liberal, progressive, democratic socialist, white ('traitor to his race') native Alabamian," Carpenter posted on X in February.

Carpenter has repeatedly criticized Trump and the "MAGA morons" who support him, including U.S. Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and Katie Britt (R-Montgomery).

However, his praise for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris has been glowing as he's publically endorsed both for president in the 2024 general election.

The judge has also supported "woke" policies and helped spread Democrat narratives against Trump despite contrary evidence.

Some may take issue with Carpenter's approach.

According to the National Center for State Courts' (NCSC) judicial guidelines, "Judges...should refrain from engaging in political discussions or making controversial statements that could compromise their impartiality."

"Judges should be mindful of the potential impact of their social media presence," the NCSC stated. "Even if their personal accounts are private, their actions and statements can still have an impact on public perception of the judiciary. Judges should be aware that their online activity can influence public confidence in the fairness and impartiality of the court."

Carpenter is running unopposed for re-election in November on the Democrat ticket.
