ABC 33/40 news anchor Brenda Ladun announced her retirement on Friday. While she is stepping away from the news business, Ladun said she will stay connected to fans in another way.

During her time on the anchor desk, Ladun celebrated the birth of her three boys and fought breast cancer twice. She was with ABC 33/40 for 29 years and anchored at several other stations before coming to Birmingham.

"I want to thank you for inviting me into your home each night and your heart," Ladun said.

Ladun's retirement begins in two weeks. At that time, she and her husband, Bill, will begin an adventure traveling. She invited her fans to stay connected on social media to come along.

In a letter to ABC 33/40 viewers, Ladun wrote, "All the stories and people I was able to interview are rolling around in my head as I make the tough decision to step away from the anchor desk and move to new adventures with my dear sweet husband, Bill Ballard."

"For two years, he has been tugging at me to join him on traveling adventures. He is the love of my life and has made me so happy, as many of you have noted on social media. He has changed my life for the better and has convinced me life is short and it's time to adventure."

Ladun is a published author and an award-winning journalist.

The announcement comes the same week ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann started his own Alabama Weather Network. Spann will remain chief meteorologist and will stay on the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts, but will no longer do nighty newscasts.
