Although there were some bright spots for Republicans on Tuesday, there was a sense of underperformance in local races that did not quite live up to their billing for the GOP down-ballot.
Though they were unsuccessful in House Districts 69 and 74, Rick Rehm, the Republican nominee in House District 85, pulled off a somewhat unexpected upset by defeating State Rep. Dexter Grimsley (D-Abbeville).
Grimsley was first elected in 2010. He lost by a 56-46% margin to Rehm.
House District 85 includes Henry and Houston Counties, including a large portion of Dothan within Ross Clark Circle.
