Following the Alabama Board of Education Place 8 GOP primary, chair and founder of the Madison County chapter of Moms for Liberty, Emily Jones, is now headed to a runoff election against runner-up William Matthews.
On Tuesday, Jones secured 42.3% (20,234) of the votes cast, with Matthews claiming 32.4% (15,562), and former Madison Board of Education member Connie Spears coming in third at 25.3% (12,165). Since no candidate earned 50% of the vote as required by state law to avoid a runoff election, one is now scheduled for June 16.
The winner of the Republican runoff will face Democrat Shatika Armstrong.
