State Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville) is firing back at Mo Brooks after the former congressman and current candidate for Alabama House District 20 criticized his job performance, alleging residents are being pitched a "con job" by Lomax and House leadership in Montgomery.

On Thursday, in a statement to 1819 News, Lomax pulled no punches regarding Brooks' track record while in office.

"Once again, Mo Brooks is out there making noise without offering any substance," Lomax said. "He continues to promise to 'discuss his record,' but when pressed, his big proof of success seems to be getting re-elected 11 times, which he says makes him successful and somehow less of a career politician. By that metric, Nancy Pelosi would be the most stunning success story in American politics."

"Look, I've got no hard feelings; it's almost amusing watching Mo get worked up over being called what he is: a do-nothing career politician who's been in elected office for 37 years."

Lomax argued that Brooks' "flamboyant, over-the-top style of politics" is no longer applicable in the modern-day state legislature.

"Endless promises, zero delivery, and a whole lot of drama," Lomax said of Brooks. "It's everything that's wrong with Government: lifelong politicians who talk a big game but leave families struggling on the sidelines."

According to Lomax, the residents of HD 20 deserve an advocate focused on bettering the area, not rehashing past political conflicts.

"As much as Mo Brooks wants it to be, this race isn't about reliving old battles or re-naming post offices, it's about the future of South Huntsville and the people of House District 20," continued Lomax. "The people here deserve fresh energy, real results, and a representative focused on making life more affordable, securing our borders, investing in areas of education and healthcare, and delivering for working families; all of which are issues I have a record of accomplishments on in just the past four years."

He added, "Although, to Mo’s credit, if this race comes down to who has re-named more post offices, he’s got me beat."
