The man charged with intentional murder in the death of Kimber Mills has bonded out of jail.

Steven Tyler Whitehead, 28, is also charged with three counts of attempted murder.

According to Jefferson County Jail records, Whitehead posted a $330,000 bond and was released on Thursday.

Mills was shot and killed on Oct. 19, 2025, at a place known as “The Pit,” during a bonfire gathering. Investigators said a verbal and physical altercation escalated and resulted in shots being fired.

A video of the moments leading up to the shooting showed a group of men jumping another man at the bonfire. The video shows the man on the ground being punched in the head multiple times, and it shows the moment shots were fired.

The video was circulated on social media, leading some to question if shots were fired in self-defense. Whitehead has been appointed a public defender.

Silas McCay and Joshua McCulloch are also charged with third-degree assault in the case.
