A teacher with Marshall County Schools has been removed from the classroom for allegedly making negative remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
In a statement sent to 1819 News on Tuesday, Superintendent Cidny Wigley said a teacher was under investigation for comments made during class. Neither the name of the teacher nor the school has been released.
“We are looking into a situation regarding comments made by a teacher during class,” Wigley said. “The teacher has been removed from the classroom pending further investigation. At this time, we are not aware of any Marshall County School employee that has posted or stated anything that celebrates the death of Charlie Kirk.”
1819 News spoke with a parent of a student in the Marshall County School system who claims their child was in the classroom when the teacher made the remarks.
“The students in [the] class were really bothered by the actions of their teacher,” the parent said. “September 11th, they were supposed to be discussing the events of 9/11, and somehow he got off on Charlie Kirk and gave them a list of reasons why he hated him. Things like, he was a religious homophobe and was racist.”
The parent continued, “We thought this was extremely inappropriate to be discussing with impressionable teens in a classroom. Most of them have watched and enjoyed Charlie Kirk and what he stands for, and he was a positive role model for them. So, they were upset over his murder. I know a lot of them went home and told their parents how bothered they were by this conversation, but were afraid to speak against him for fear of getting in trouble.”
Alabama State Superintendent of Education Eric Mackey sent an email to school superintendents on Saturday warning that “inappropriate" and "reprehensible" posts made by some Alabama educators would be investigated.
