It’s expected that Space Command will officially be moved from Colorado to Alabama later this month, according to U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks).
In January 2021, the Secretary of the Air Force identified the Redstone Arsenal site in Huntsville as the top choice for the Space Command headquarters. The recommendation for the site was then affirmed by the Inspector General's Office and the Government Accountability Office, both of which found that the Air Force had conducted an accurate analysis and Huntsville was the superior location.
Yet on July 31, 2023, then-President Joe Biden reversed the decision to locate Space Command headquarters in Huntsville and instead selected a location in Colorado.
Undoing Biden’s reversal has been a priority of state and federal elected officials in Alabama.
Rogers, House Armed Services Committee chairman, said during an interview on the McCrary Institute’s “Cyber Focus” podcast on Tuesday, “I expect sometime in the month of April that Space Command will officially be assigned to build its headquarters in Huntsville.”

“I’ve already talked with the contractor, and he is ready to turn dirt on the day they announce,” he added. “We do expect it to be announced right after the Air Force Secretary is named.”
