HUNTSVILLE — On Tuesday afternoon, former congressman and current GOP candidate for Alabama House District 20 Mo Brooks again accused his primary opponent, State Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville), of being controlled by out-of-state special interest groups.

Brooks, speaking at the Republican Women of Huntsville's monthly luncheon, provided attendees with a document identifying funding for Lomax from out-of-state organizations associated with gambling and open borders.

"The incumbent's extreme reliance on special interest PACs is very troubling," Brooks told the audience. "Since 2021, more than 90% of over $1 million of Lomax's contributions and third-party support have come from special interest PACs. Less than 2% is from House District 20 — citizens he reports to represent. A 90-to-2 ratio is horrible. I have never seen one that bad."

According to Brooks, Lomax's campaign has received $58,500 from out-of-state and foreign "gambling moguls," with another $500,000 being spent by gambling interests to help promote Lomax.

"Now, who does Lomax rely on? Out-of-state and foreign gambling moguls laundered $45 million into Alabama's races in order to get what they want," noted Brooks. "$58,500 has been laundered into Lomax's campaign account, and another half million is being spent that was laundered into the American Conservative fund, whose sole job is to attack me and promote the incumbent. For emphasis, gambling moguls are not about honesty. They are about fleecing anyone foolish enough to think that they can beat a house that always wins."

Out-of-state gambling interests, Brooks argued, are working to establish a casino in Huntsville with the assistance of Lomax.

"What do gambling moguls demand? Legalized casino gambling in Huntsville," Brooks said. "Undermining the wholesome family image we have spent 70 years building, which has helped attract so many good jobs to our community. Lomax, we'll deliver what the gambling moguls want. How do we know that? We know it because in 2024, Lomax voted to legalize casinos and other gambling by voting for House bills 152 and 151. That legislation fell by just one vote in the Alabama State Senate."

Brooks listed several other special-interest groups with alleged financial ties to his opponent.

"Who else does Lomax owe? Both open borders and cheap foreign labor PACs gave Lomax over $180,000. All of this is accessible on the Secretary of State's website. The liberal AEA teacher's union, one of our arch enemies, gave $45,000 to Lomax. Blue Cross, Blue Shield, $55,000 of laundered PAC contributions to Lomax. Trial lawyers, $30,000 to Lomax. Heck, even utility providers gave $20,000 to Lomax, and what do they want? Higher utility rates to get higher profits."

He added, "This is evidence. It's not word of mouth. It's not just someone's say-so. It's hard evidence."
